First Tuesday with Yaquelin Laporte and Ruby Mountain

October Turn Up Tuesday with Yaquelin Laporte and Ruby Mountain!

Direct from Havana, Cuba, Yaquelin Laporte weaves her unique music from the threads of storytelling, prayer and improvisation. Growing from the deep soil of Cuban boleros, inspired by Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Bjork, Yaquelin offers her fresh voice and creates a deep invitation to be human in our full, collective expression. Collaborating with the international music community in the Bay Area, her latin, electronic, afrobeat fusion come to life, creating space for the spirit of magic to live inside all of us.

RUBY MOUNTAIN is an Oakland–based vocalist and songwriter who calls upon her training in Jazz, experimental electronic and Afghan music to create compositions of love, resiliency and social justice. She is a graduate from Mills College, was selected as the Studio Grand Artist in Residence, a National Endowments for the Arts grant recipient, and a featured musician in the East Bay Express in 2015. She has been featured in museums such as the exhibit Take This Hammer: Art and Media Activism exhibition at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts curated by Christian L. Frock and as the music director for Forest Tales: An Eco Cinema by Anuj Vaidya at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum. Her recent performances include the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. as a lead vocalist in the productionTear A Root From the Earth.
